Shopping at Comex 2007
After so many times of missing it, I finally get to step into an IT fair. Went to Comex with Jon’s dad last Friday to take a look. Main purpose is to get a wireless set of keyboard and mouse.
This IT shopping is really stirring... it makes people, like me, feel like spending money for WANTS. After walking around, I feel like getting a DVD player from Shinco, a digital photo frame, a set of 2to1 speakers, a new camera, and also... a new laptop. Anyway, I broke bro’s old laptop screen by stepping on it when I woke up cuz I put it so near my bed. *stupid.* The estimated price for replacement is about $780 including the admin fees. I didn't get it fix lar...
After Jon’s dad left to fetch his mom, I stayed to browse for more about laptops. Every booth I go, I zoom in to the lightweight ones. Really enjoy approaching the sales persons around. I can get to observe various style of selling. Good ones and bad ones; aggressive ones, insincere ones, amateur ones, bo-chap ones, know-it-all ones, professional ones, etc. Sometimes it’s quite irritating when you told them your type of usage and they introduce you something far away and you very well know it’s the priciest one. Thank ah... *slap forehead*
For about 2-3 hours, I have covered most of the brands and all those I’m interested. I was alone and quite confused of what I should get. Specification wise is very much similar for those small ones. Those that dun have a webcam is strike-off. Those look ugly, bye-bye too. Budget is a factor. I’m looking at something around 2K. So VIOS is definitely out. It’s really quite tempting cuz it’s pretty and super lightweight. Requirements fit me as well. But it is almost 3K. ~_~ Next I need expert advice from frequent computer users to tell me if it’s a go or no-go to narrow down my choices.
I took all the brochures back and consulted Jon’s cousin at night. My options were immediately narrowed down to 3; Toshiba, Acer, and Dell. I felt relieved. At least I know what to look at. Jon decides to follow me to Comex the next day after my Penang turn to get one. *Hooray!*
Coincidentally during the next day, the IFS gave me a namecard of a Dell manager at the end of the flight knowing that I’m heading to Comex in the afternoon. We got lotsa Dell staff onboard from Penang to SIN. The lady recommended the sis if we’re getting anything from Dell. Good price, more freebies, I thought. *HEE* Indeed, we found the sis at the Dell booth. But stock will only come in after 2 weeks. Hmm... that’s how Dell work. BUT I can’t wait leh... I wanna bring the laptop to Perth.
So we got back to ACER. There’s a better grade TravelMate 6292 than the one I was looking at the day before, TravelMate 6291. It’s pricier, but the specs are much better too. So Jon does his analysis to me. We concluded that if we’re upgrading the Dell 1420 set to something similar to TM 6292, the price is about the same. 1 thing for sure, if I get ACER that day, I’ll bring it home that day. With that, we brought home the ACER TravelMate 6292!
I’m loving IT!
